The Curry Cup 2007

2007 is your chance to compete in the Curry Cup to be held on the 5th May. This annual boat race is held in Singapore to raise money for The Blair Hutchinson charitable trust. You and your team of practised (or
in most cases completely novice) sailors will race from Raffles Marina down to Onedegree15 on a fleet of yachts donated, along with captains, by some very generous supporters of the trust.
The day begins with breakfast at the marina followed by a day's sailing and a party on the roof terrace at our final destination.

10am - Arrive Raffles Marina Breakfast and drinks boarding at your leisure

11am - Commencement of the 2007 Curry Cup

Approx 5pm - Arrive onedegree15 disembark, shower and dress for the evening's festivities

6pm - Drinks reception for your land lubber guests

7pm- Presentation to winning crew

7.30pm onwards - Dinner is served and the partying proper begins

This year we are proud to give back to our adopted home with the beneficiaries for the 2007 Curry Cup the Andrew and Grace Home for troubled teens (www.aghome.org.sg) and the Shear Inspiration Campaign for the Childrens Cancer Foundation (http://www.ccf.org.sg).

Curry Cup, October
2005

A beautifully sunny October 1st was the day set for the second annual Curry Cup race.
Sailing out of the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club this year saw double the number of
participants in the race. After a quick breakfast at RSYC Keith Dunn, our master of ceremonies
got all the crews and captains together to briefly outline the racing schedule. Pursuit race out of RSYC, two triangle races and a pursuit race
back where the final
winners would be decided based on a handicapped timing system. The food and beverages (mainly alcoholic) were then loaded onto the boats as the teams prepared to set sail. The photographer was loaded onto a very flash speedboat and started the farcical process of taking pictures of moving sailing boats whilst on a moving speed boat!

The Lunchcutter seemed to be comprehensively leading all races and actually sailed to a position miles away from the first triangle race with the majority of the crew jumping off the stationary boat and swimming. They claimed they had finished the triangle and were waiting for the other slow coaches to get to the start point of the next race. The other boats threw accusations of cheating at them but led by Crackers they jeered a lot and didn't seem to care. Happy Endings with probably the most experienced crew, appeared to be moving in slow motion which didn't seem to bother her crew too much as they tucked into the beers. The Barclays Capital boys on Solarmax, were very relaxed although it soon became clear that several of them had forgotten to bring sun screen and there was a lovely red glow around the boat from mid morning onwards. Jeremy Muller and his motley crew were quietly confident with Jeremy gagging to win the cup back after losing to the Lunchcutter boys last year.

The day progressed without incident and the competition became more intense with the Aussies on Lunchcutter becoming a tad too confident of themselves whilst not being too clear on the handicapping rules. Poor Graham on the starter boat had a bit of a mare as the boat died in the middle of the channel but he was fortunately rescued by the photography boat and with all four races complete we headed back to the RSYC. There a coach was waiting to ferry all back to the Bungy Bar at Clarke Quay, many thanks to those guys for the second consecutive year of sponsorship – long may the relationship last. Much gorgeous food was consumed and much alcohol drunk as we waited with bated breath for the results see below.

Thanks to all our crews and captains and we look forward to doubling the number of boats involved again next year and passing the S$16,000 mark for the day.
